Child Nutrition/ Food Services
It is the goal of the
Child Nutrition Department to better educate the students of the Van
Buren School District in the role of good nutrition and the importance
of making nutritious choices at meal time. All schools in the district
operate under the Accuscan/Meal Tracker System. Upon establishing a weekly
or monthly meal account, a student is issued a meal card which is to
be scanned as the student passes through the meal service line. Food
costs are deducted from he account and a daily record is made of the
student's choices. Parents may request a record of what their child spends
and eats.
Each traditional menu is planned using the nutrition guidelines adopted
by the Arkansas Department of Education. Both breakfast and lunch menus
are available. Students at Central Middle School, Northridge Middle School,
Coleman Junior High, Butterfield Junior High and Van Buren High School
are allowed more flexibility through the Scramble System. Students in
schools using the Scramble System have the option of the traditional
menu, the food bar and/or the ala carte special of the day. Ala carte
items may be purchased on a cash only basis, individually or as an addition
to any meal.
Free and reduced lunch applications are made available to all families.
Confidentiality of students receiving free or reduced meals is strictly
maintained. Recognition of free or reduced students is possible only
if students themselves share that information. Applications for free
or reduced meals may be picked up at each school office or at the Child
Nutrition Department at the Administration Building, 2221 Pointer Trail
East.
