Local VFW honors students and teachers

Two Van Buren students and two Van Buren teachers were recently honored by the Robert Jack VFW Post 1322. Parkview Elementary School’s Renee Rotert and Butterfield Trail Middle School’s Kellie Jackson were awarded "Teacher of the Year" for 2018-2019. Judges selected the teachers based on essays written by student Katelyn King who nominated them for the award.
King, who attends Butterfield Trail Middle School, was also recognized by the VFW. She and Van Buren High School student Jentry Myers were named the Robert Jack VFW Post 1322 Patriot Pen and VOD winners for 2018-2019! Both won VFW District 7 and will advance to State Finals for a chance to win at the national level.
