VBHS Cheer captures state title

The Van Buren High School Cheerleaders have been named the 2018 State Champions. The Pointer Cheer squad captured the championship title at State Competition in Hot Springs last month for the 4A-6A Co-ed division.

Van Buren beat out eight other teams from around the state to earn the top spot. The squad also scored the highest overall in the performance division among the 52 teams represented at the contest.

Coach Danielle Ross credits hard work and teamwork for the squad’s continued success. “I’m not sure if I’ve ever worked with a more determined group of athletes.” Ross is also appreciative of the support the team has received from the school, parents, and others. “Competing at this level takes a village. We have had countless morning and late night practices. Hours of hard work went into making this State Championship happen and we are thrilled that it all paid off. I am very proud of this amazing group!”

In addition to Ross, VBHS Cheer is led by Coach Lisa Pixley and Choreographer Drake Stafford. The group is comprised of 35 team members. The championship capped off a winning season for the squad. Earlier this year, the competition team took home first place and overall in the Co-ed division at the Pointer Cheer Invitational.
