Van Buren to host Crawford County Spelling Bee

Students from throughout the region will compete for the title of top speller at the Crawford County Spelling Bee on January 18.

Hosted by the Van Buren School District, the competition will be held at the Van Buren Fine Arts Center beginning at 9 a.m. Participants will include third through eighth grade students who placed in the top four at their school's preliminary spelling bee. The winner of the Crawford County Bee will advance to the State Competition, which will take place in Cabot on February 1.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis. Students in third through eighth grades are eligible to participate. State level winners qualify to compete at the National Spelling Bee, which is held each May in Washington, D.C.

Generations Bank is the proud sponsor of the Crawford County Spelling Bee, along with event host, the Van Buren School District. Admission to the event is free. The state competition is sponsored by The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.
