How to help during Coronavirus school closure

How can I help?

Many in our community have asked how they can be of help to our students and families during this challenging time. With many students relying heavily on free/reduced priced school meals for breakfast and lunch, the school closure is obviously an issue of concern for their families.

In addition to our "grab-and-go" meal options, VBSD is also collecting donations for its IMPACT Meals program, which benefits our most at-risk population. Through IMPACT, students receive supplemental groceries each month to help combat hunger at home. VBSD plans to ramp up IMPACT distribution in the coming weeks to help alleviate burdens for families financially impacted by Coronavirus.

There are two ways you can help!

Donate items. Food can be delivered to the VBSD Service Center (Closed during Spring Break, March 22-29)  or to the Van Buren Police Department. (See addresses below.) We can also arrange to pick up food.

Most needed items:

Canned foods (soup, tuna, vegetables)
Macaroni and cheese
Peanut butter
Jelly
Ramen noodles
Dried beans (1 lb. bags)
Rice (1 lb. bags)
Granola bars
Cheese or peanut butter crackers
Vienna sausages
Spaghetti noodles & sauce
Tuna Helper
**Please no glass jar**

Contribute financially.
IMPACT will use all monetary contributions to purchase food items for our families.

IMPACT greatly appreciates its generous contributors. Your support is needed more now than ever before, as our program's ability to buy in bulk and obtain supplies has been affected by the national crisis. Thank you for choosing to help those most in need here at home!
