Child Nutrition/ Food Services
It is the goal of the Child Nutrition Department to better educate the students of the Van Buren School district in the role of good nutrition and the importance of making nutritious choices at meal time. All schools in the district operate under the Horizon/Onesource. K-12 students are issued either a meal card or a number which is entered as the student comes through the meal line. Food costs are deducted from the account and a daily record is maintained. Parents may request a record of what their child spends. Parents may send a check to put money or pay on their child's account. They may also log into http://mypaymentsplus.com to pay or add money to their child's account by credit card for a fee of 4.75% per transaction. You can view your child's account on MyPaymentsPlus at no charge. The cafeteria manager or technology consultant can answer any questions on MyPaymentsPlus
Each traditional menu is planned using USDA nutrition guidelines adopted by the Arkansas Department of Education. Both breakfast and lunch menus are available. Students at Northridge Middle School, Butterfield Trail Middle School, Coleman Freshman Academy, and Van Buren High School are allowed more flexibility through the Scramble System. Students in schools using the Scramble System have the option of the main dish, basket meal, and salad bar.
Free and reduced lunch applications are made available to all families. Confidentiality of students receiving free or reduced meals is strictly maintained Recognition of free or reduced students is possible only if students themselves share that information. Applications for free or reduced meals may be picked up from each school office or the Child Nutrition Department located at the VBSD Service Center, 2804 Industrial Park Road.
