Van Buren schools welcomes all students living within the boundaries of the Van
Buren School District (VBSD).
For the 2009-2010 school year, students may enter kindergarten in the public schools of Arkansas if the student will attain the age of five (5) years on or before September 1, 2009; for the 2010-2011 school year, students may enter kindergarten in the public schools of Arkansas if the student will attain the age of five (5) years on or before August 15, 2010; and for the 2011-2012 school year and afterwards, students may enter kindergarten in the public schools of Arkansas if the student will attain the age of five (5) years on or before August 1 of the year the student is seeking initial enrollment. Information available at ADE.
To register a child for kindergarten at VBSD, the parent/guardian, must present
to the principal or other school authority the child's Social Security number
and one of the following:
- An official copy of the child's birth certificate;
- A statement by the local registrar or a county recorder certifying the child's date of birth;
- An attested baptism certificate;
- A passport;
- An affidavit of the date and place of birth by the child's parent/guardian; or
- previous school records.
However, a parent or guardian that objects to the listing of his or her child's
social security number on school records may have this requirement waived by
signing a notarized statement regarding their objections.
When a notarized statement objecting to the filing of the social security number
is filed with the school, a number identifying that child will be furnished by
the school.
If a child does not have a social security number, he/she may be provisionally
admitted if a completed and postage paid application for a social security number
is provided to the school principal or other school authority so that a social
security number can be obtained.
No child will be admitted to the Van Buren Schools without proof that the child
meets all health requirements provided by state law. Therefore, proof of a comprehensive
physical exam is required at the time of registration. Forms for physical exams
may be picked up at each school office and at most area physicians' offices.
In accordance with Act 244 of 1967 and Act 633 of 1973, the General Assembly
of Arkansas requires that all children must be immunized from Poliomyelitis,
Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Red Measles (Rubeola) and German Measles (Rubella).
Proof of these immunizations is required. An immunization for Mumps is also recommended.
State law also requires that students entering the seventh grade must have proof
of a second MMR immunization.
Parents/guardians of students transferring into the district are asked to complete
an enrollment form and sign a Transfer of Records request form. Students are
allowed conditional admission pending record transfer.
To facilitate registration, senior high and junior high offices are open all
year. Elementary and middle school offices are closed the last two (2) weeks
of June and the first three (3) weeks of July.
