Welcome to Rena Elementary School's Website!

Rena is the largest of six K-4 campuses in the Van Buren School District and serves a little over 500 students. Rena Elementary School is in Van Buren, Arkansas, a small, quaint community of about 20,000 located on the banks of the Arkansas River. Rena is a friendly, neighborhood school with a culture of doing whatever it takes to help every child be successful. We are dedicated to NCLB and the Arkansas Department of Education goals of literacy and mathematics success for every student. We take a comprehensive literacy approach to teach students to be readers and writers. We use a standards-based, hands-on approach to teach mathematics. Rena's curriculum instruction is aligned with the Arkansas Frameworks curriculum standards. Student's scores on the Benchmark and ITBS exams are consistently at or above state and national averages. We offer an inclusion program, with assistance from resource staff, for students with special needs. We have modified instruction and a pull-out program for students identified as Gifted and Talented. We offer Reading Recovery and small group tutoring with a paraprofessional as part of an early intervention program. We also have a Student Success Team who meets monthly to review student data and make recommendations for interventions to help struggling students. In addition to our regular classroom instruction, we provide rich instruction in the following areas: Library Media, Character Education, Physical Education, Art, Technology, and Music.

We have 32 certified staff members. One third of them have advanced degrees and several are working on National Board Certification or have obtained that certification. Our teachers work together for student success through a professional learning community. We have two highly-trained curriculum coaches who work in classrooms modeling current, sound teaching strategies. They also provide ongoing applied professional development during the school day for all classroom teachers.

We have 100% staff and student PTA membership with a very active PTA. Our PTA sponsors numerous projects and programs to involve parents and community in the education of our students. The Rena Elementary School community recognizes the importance of parental and community involvement in our children's educational process. We believe that education is a partnership between home and school. Parent involvement is crucial to the academic and social well-being of children. Our partners in education also play a huge role in helping us reach our vision of "Every Child…Whatever it takes!" We partner with the Crawford County Center for Art and Education, Citizens Bank, Conway Southern Trucking, Dominoes Pizza, Georgia Pacific, Van Buren Kiwanis Club, Quality Lawns, and the Van Buren Fire Department.

At Rena Elementary, we know technology instruction is very important in helping our students live in our global community. We have a 28 station computer lab with a SMART Board and projector. We also have two other projectors in our building. Our Library Media Center has 12 computer stations and all our classrooms have at least two networked computers with plans to add a third computer in each classroom.
