Seventy-seven year North Central Accredited, Junior Reserve Officer Training (JROTC), Honor Unit Award, VBHS Seniors awarded 2.6 million dollars in scholarship awards in 2001, Academic Decathlon State Champions 2001, 100% Staff PTSA Membership 2001-02, and 100% increase award 2001.

Special Programs:
Arkansas Scholars, Gifted and Talented, ten Advanced Placement courses offered 2001, A/B Scheduling, Quiz Bowl, JROTC, ACT Prep, Western Arkansas Technical Center, University of Arkansas Fort Smith Concurrent Curriculum, VBHS Hall of Honor, Academic Decathlon, VBHS Alumni Association, Step-up to Writing, Career College Connection, and VBHS Evening School Program.

Technology:

Four Workforce Education Business (computer technology) Labs, PLATO Learning Lab, Rosetta Stone Foreign Language Computer Lab, Media Center Multi-Media Lab, computer in every classroom for instructional use. All rooms have e-mail and Internet access, cable TV closed circuit system with daily school broadcast, and EAST Lab.

Parent Involvement Opportunities:
ACSIP School Improvement Committee, Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), Athletic and Band Booster Clubs, Van Buren Education Foundation, and Workforce Education Advisory Committee.
