Pinnacle FAQ's

Q:What is the subject grade ?

A: The subject grade tracks a student's grade in a specific course over the entire school year. The semester grade is the grade of record which goes on the transcript.

Q: What if the percentage of a student's grade appears to be incorrect ?

A: Contact the teacher in question to discuss the student's grade.

Q: What if I have a question about a specific assignment in a teacher's class ?

A: Contact the teacher of the class for answers to specific assignment and grading questions.

Q: How do I contact the teacher ?

A: You may get in contact with a specific teacher at VBHS by using email, (all addresses are listed on our website) or by phone. Teachers will return your call during their prep time.

Q: What do I do if I have a question about a student's attendance?

A: Contact Roger Bates. A student who is more than fifteen minutes late to a class will most likely be counted absent. There are also cases where a student comes to class late and the absence has not been changed to a tardy.

Q: What do ME, E, U, T and SB mean ?

A: All are absentee codes. ME is Medical Excuse. E is Excused. U is Unexcused. T is Tardy and SB is School Business.

Q: What if a student's first semester grade appears to be different from what was on the student's first semester report card?

A: Check with the student's counselor to verify the student's grade on their transcript is correct. There were some problems with Pinnacle grades at semester which were corrected in the state's computer system, but not in Pinnacle. The transcript is the official record. The transcript and first semester report card should be identical.

Q: Why is my student's grade different now from the one on last week's progress
report ?

A: The grade reflected on the Parent Viewer is a real time grade. It reflects all of the assignments entered into the gradebook at any given time. If your student's grade is different, more than likely the teacher has entered more grades since the progress report, thus causing the grade to change.

Q: What are NC and I ?

A: NC is a temporary grade of No Credit. This is usually entered when a student violates the absentee policy at VBHS. I is an incomplete grade. It is also temporary and is entered when a student misses assignments and can't get those completed before the end of the grading  period.

Q: Can anyone access my student's grades ?

A: Parents of record are the only persons who have your student's username and password. School personnel with access to the grade book can access grades, but a username and password must be used by everyone else.

Q: Can a grade be changed using Parent Viewer ?

A: No. The Parent Viewer is a read only interface. The only way a grade can be changed is by school personnel with access to the Pinnacle grade book.
