Freshmen learn about skilled trades through Be Pro Be Proud mobile workshop

Students at the Van Buren Freshman Academy had the opportunity to learn about a wide-variety of skilled trade and technical careers yesterday during a special visit from the "Be Pro Be Proud" workforce workshop. The mobile unit provides students with hands-on experience in skilled professions and provides a unique environment to explore technical fields and ask questions about related careers.

Be Pro Be Proud is an initiative led by the Associated Industries of Arkansas which is "leading the movement to bring a new generation of pride, progress, and professionals to Arkansas's skilled workforce."

The Van Buren Chamber of Commerce has helped coordinate efforts with Be Pro Be Proud for the past several years. VBSD and the Chamber have a shared commitment to developing a diverse and highly-skilled workforce for the region. The two frequently partner on initiatives to educate students about the vast career options available to them and to provide opportunities to learn about employers in the area.
