Tate Elementary School to celebrate opening of Project Learning Garden on May 8

Tate Elementary School in Van Buren will celebrate the opening of its new Project Learning Garden on May 8.

Located on campus grounds, the garden will provide children the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning activities, such as planting and harvesting. Tate Elementary is currently one of two VBSD schools participating in the FoodCorps program, which promotes nutrition education across curriculum. The garden will further aid in the program’s efforts, which helps introduce children to healthy foods and teaches them about the value of growing their own produce.

The garden was made possible through the generosity of Innovative Solutions for Educational Partnerships, Lumber One, Lowe's, Captain Planet Foundation, Dole, Harps, Yeagers Hardware, VBSD Education Foundation, Farmers Coop, Tractor Supply, Parks Brothers, Olin Smith Jr., Arnold Farms, and Crawford Construction.

Congressman Steve Womack will be in attendance at the ceremony, along with Mayor Bob Freeman and a number of other special guests and community leaders.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m., followed by a brief program. Tate Elementary School is located at 406 Catcher Road in Van Buren. For more information, contact Drew Cone at 479.474.7942.
