AdvancED External Review
Thanks and congratulations to all staff!
Our recent AdvancED External Review Team reported after their three-day study of our school district that they will recommend FULL ACCREDITATION to the AdvancED accrediting board. The team spent Sunday through Wednesday in the VBSD interviewing administrators, principals, teachers, parents, community members, classified employees, support personnel, students, and others about the work we are doing in our community. They also studied documents, test scores, and other exhibits to get a feel for the VBSD.
We were happy to host Dr. Mike Griffin (Lead Evaluator) from South Carolina, Mr. Eric Spoto from Suwanee, Georgia, Dr. Daniel Mitchum from Fisher, Indiana, and Daryl Blaxton, Mary Jo Wisener, and Dr. Stephanie Nehus from Arkansas.
The external review team interviewed some 191 stakeholders in Van Buren. They reported certain themes mentioned across the district:
- high levels of trust from all stakeholders
- personalized education for the whole child
- strong support for instruction through resource allocation
- clear understanding and ownership of purpose and direction
The review team also recognized these "Powerful Practices:"
- the workshop instructional model
- commitment to sustained professional development
- community connections and support, especially through the Education Foundation
The charge of the external review team is to review, validate, and evaluate the evidence the VBSD provided and relay those findings to AdvancED. Based on the findings of the external review team from the review of evidence, they recommended that the Van Buren School District be fully accredited by AdvancED.
Thanks to all who had a part in this report to our External Review Team. Special thanks to all students, parents, teachers, principals, staff and others who participated in this review process, and to all who make Van Buren such a wonder place to live!
