VBHS New Tech High
Congratulations to Van Buren High School for being chosen by the Arkansas Workforce Cabinet as a New Tech High School for 2012-2013. This distinction comes with a $150,000 grant to help defray expenses needed to train staff and make necessary changes in a learning spaces.
New Tech is only one component of our vision for Van Buren High School. The high school will also be rolling out three other Career Colleges in subsequent years in which all students may choose to be involved. For example, under consideration are one Career College with emphasis on engineering and another exposing students to the field of biomedicine. The vision is to create smaller "learning communities" within our high school to ensure students feel they have a "place" in what otherwise would be simply a large traditional high school. Our students will be learning in the context of a College or Career emphasis!
I know lots of time and effort have gone into the proposal and application process. Congratulations to everyone at VBHS for this first step.....and GOOD for our kids who will be coming into our high school in future years and leaving with real world experiences in several career fields.
