Van Buren to hold inaugural Elementary Meet of Champs

The Van Buren School District will hold its first-ever Elementary Track and Field Meet of Champs on Tuesday, May 28.

This spring, VBSD hosted individual track and field days for each elementary school. Students in grades K-5 competed in a series of events, including shot put, long jump, agility drill, 50-meter dash, and 100-meter dash, at the Van Buren High School track facility. Ribbons were awarded to the top competitors.

On Tuesday, the top three finishers in each event from the individual schools in third through fifth grades will return to compete in the Meet of Champs. Medals will be given to the top three competitors in each event, for each grade level. A plaque will also be presented to the school with the highest overall point total.

“The track and field days were great fun for our students and staff. We are excited to see our top finishers compete at the Meet of Champs,” said VBSD Activities Director, Drew Cone. “The district plans to make this an annual tradition for our elementary schools.”

The Meet of Champs will take place at the Van Buren High School’s recently renovated track facility from 11:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. For more information about the meet, follow @VBSDActivities on Facebook and Twitter.
