Congratulations to Van Buren High School (VBHS) student Gracie King, who was recently honored with the National Hispanic Recognition Award!

King was presented the academic honor from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs. These programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them stand out during the admissions process.

A junior, King plays the French horn as part of the state champion VBHS Pointer Marching Band. She is also a member of Young Democrats of America. King is currently enrolled in multiple Advanced Placement courses and has previously qualified for college credit in both AP Biology and AP World History. She is the daughter of David and Virginia King.

“Gracie is very deserving of this prestigious award,” said VBHS Principal Eddie Tipton. “She excels academically and in her extra-curricular involvement and represents our school and district proudly. We are thrilled to see her efforts honored on the national level.”

Selections are based on outstanding performances on exams and in the classroom. Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; and are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town. Eligible students are invited to apply during their sophomore or junior year and are awarded at the beginning of the next school year.
